As some of you know (and probably expected) the Passat is becoming more of a headache than I anticipated, so the search for a replacement continues. The frontrunner - The R-Design V60- is out because of the terribly terrible Volvo double clutch, which seems even less prepared to Brazilian conditions than my not so terrible but still sketchy DSG6. IN COMES THE MINI.
I’ve started looking at bog standard 2.0 S with the sound pack and ZF Auto. What do you thing about them? Power is good, the gearbox is good, suspension will probably be a bit tough but thats ok, and I can get some warranty with MINI/NEXT.

I’ll ask you the same question I ask everyone — if a Passat wagon was generally meeting your needs, would a car half the size do the same?
I know this is more a
practical than emotional approach
, but I always consider both sides
. If you like to swap out cars every year, then ignore me completely :D

Now that I also have a new CUV. A small car will probably do better in the city.

You know, I saw the new Camry on the street last week, I wouldn’t mind owning one if I was very very old.

To save money, but one of those little Brazilian Chevy’s that isn’t sold anywhere else in the world. That would be unique here, and probably more reliable than the Passat.

New they are very expensive, around $50k for the Exclusive or whatever. But the 2015/16 ones are around half that.

That’s actually kind of nice; it looks like a Chevy Crosstrek. THIS is what I meant.

My wife just got a 2015 Cooper S “5-door” with the 6 speed automatic. I was skeptical of the auto but actually loved it, as does she. She’s on week 2 driving it every day on her ~100 mile round trip commute and still loves it. We found one with just 7,700 miles on it, so it’s essentially new for 2/3 the price, with some warranty remaining as well.
The ride’s a
little harsh on bumpy roads
, but it still has the original 17" run-flats. Those are coming off for winter in favor of 16" snows (non-run-flat), and then we’ll see how it feels before deciding whether to put the 17's back on with the RFTs, or get different tires, OR a set of 16's... we’ll see. Also, depsite the harshness, it handles so well that it almost doesn’t matter. You notice the bumps and yet you’re still comfortably going 5-10mph faster than we would go in the XC70.

It’s not actually a ZF box though. Aisin I think.

I would recommend against the mini. My experience with a 2010 r56 was awful. Loving my focus ST though, but I have a big ass warranty.

None of those are sold here, but I’m considering the CT200H

Those are nice basically a Prius 5 IIRC, with more luxury . I have a friend in California who has one, >100,000 miles and still going well.
